Coming back from burnout: small steps that actually hold
Burnout doesn't lift because you took a long weekend. It lifts when a few small things change and stay changed. Here's where to start.

Burnout is not being tired. Tired is fixed by rest. Burnout is when rest doesn't work anymore, when the things you used to care about feel like items on a list, and when a small request lands like a heavy one.
If you're there, the advice to "take some time off" can feel almost insulting. You've tried. You came back and it was waiting for you. What works is less dramatic and more durable: a handful of small changes that hold.
Start with one boundary, not five
Pick the single thing that costs you the most and fence it. For many people it's the phone after a certain hour, or the meeting you attend out of habit, or the "quick favor" that is never quick. One boundary, kept for two weeks, teaches you that boundaries can hold. Five boundaries, kept for two days, teaches the opposite.
Put something back in before you take more out
Burnout is a deficit, and you can't fix a deficit by cutting alone. Choose one thing that gives energy rather than costs it, and give it the protection of an appointment. A walk with a friend. The instrument in the closet. Cooking one real meal. It will feel unearned. Do it anyway.
Notice the stories
"If I don't do it, nobody will." "They'll think I can't handle it." "It's just a busy season." These sentences keep burnout running. Writing them down and reading them back is surprisingly effective, because most of them are less true on paper than they feel at 6 p.m. This is a good thing to do with Zenn, which is patient with the same sentence more than once.
Say it to someone whose job is to listen
A counselor won't tell you to quit your job or to try harder. They'll help you see what's yours to carry and what isn't, which is usually the thing burnout has blurred. Members can book a licensed counselor from the app, and the first conversation is often just naming what's happening.
What "better" looks like
Not a transformation. You'll notice you laughed at something. A request lands as a request. You leave on time and don't apologize for it in your head. Better arrives in small units, and it holds when the small changes do.
If at any point it stops feeling like burnout and starts feeling like you don't want to be here, please call (833) 354-2691, or call or text 988. That is not a burnout problem, and you should not carry it alone.
